Russia coup update:
And just like that, the coup appears over.
If you missed the earlier post today, you MUST read it first: Russian coup update, Edition 1.
There’s still a lot not known, but I’ve seen enough to feel certain that the coup — and drive to Moscow — by Yevgeniy Prigozhin and the private military company called Wagner is over.
I’ll share some some early analysis about what happened — and what it means —below this article.
Proof it’s over:
A rebellious mercenary commander said Saturday he ordered his mercenaries to halt their march on Moscow and retreat to field camps in Ukraine, appearing to defuse a dramatically escalating crisis that represented the most significant challenge to President Vladimir Putin in his more than two decades in power.
Moscow had braced for the arrival of forces from the Wagner Group, a private army led by Yevgeny Prigozhin that has been fighting alongside regular Russian troops in Ukraine, by erecting checkpoints with armored vehicles and troops on the city’s southern edge. Red Square was shut down, and the mayor urged motorists to stay off some roads.
But Prigozhin announced that while his men were just 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Moscow, he decided to turn them back to avoid “shedding Russian blood.”
Why he stopped:
What it means:
A ) Putin is weaker.
B ) A lot of Russians learned some hard (and maybe new) truths about the war in Ukraine.
C ) There were some small protests a year ago against Putin. I’m betting many in Russia are feeling emboldened now.
D ) But not everyone sees this as a political issue.
E ) Belarus apparently played a hand in the deal.
Now that it’s over, questions include:
And we’re probably back to a challenging fight for Ukraine, but make no mistake: this was great for Ukraine.
It also probably didn’t help Russian morale on the frontlines. I’m not sure many wanted to die for Russia before this, but this entire fiasco hasn’t helped.
I’ll continue to share more as details of the deal are announced.
Love and peace,
Stan R. Mitchell

Stan? I don’t understand why Wagner attacked the 6 helicopters and a plane. Where they shooting at the mercenaries? This all is like a movie scene, Stan. They are, after all, mercenaries. Wagner doesn’t care who they shoot at, as long as they get what they want.
A question, Stan. If Wagner has been able to scare Putin and done all this in 24 hours, why couldn’t Ukraine have done more in all these months? Especially when Zelenskyy has a constant stream of armament from his allies, more ordnance, whereas Wagner group had peanuts in comparison.
Putin attacks Kiev constantly, like two days ago, but Zelenskyy doesn’t want to shoot nor destroy anything in Russian territory. Why? I can understand the civilian situation to not hurt them, and I totally agree if that was the case but, what about their infrastructures, just like Putin does in Ukraine?
I don’t pretend to understand war, Stan. But, this war is dragging on and on, civilians are the ones affected, Why can’t Zelenskyy defeat the Russian soldiers, with the billions of dollars in armament we keep sending Ukraine? Surely Ukraine is more powerful ordnance wise than Russia now?
Aahhh..my head hurts. My heart breaks. My soul weeps for the people, for the soldiers..
Thank you, Stan. Have a lovely weekend. Rest. Enjoy. 🧡🤗
