The Stan R. Mitchell report for 4/15/22.
Happy Friday, everyone! Hope everyone has had a great week and is looking forward to the weekend!
The wife and I got a bit of a head start on our weekend, taking a trip down to Atlanta to catch a comedy show.
I won’t lie, it felt really good. Both to enjoy some time together away from the busy-ness of regular home life and to really let it sink in that all my hard work is starting to pay off. And on that note, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of your all’s support.
You can’t ever achieve anything in life worth achieving without a great team around you, and I’m fortunate to have so much support. So thanks to each of you.
While I’m talking about our short, mid-week trip, let me share one other quick item.
On our way home, a normal pitstop for fuel turned into something else, and I share this not for publicity or to brag, but to encourage you to do the same.
An older gentleman was having trouble trying to fill a nearly-flat tire and I was probably going to stop to help anyway. But once I saw the Marine Corps sticker of Semper Fi on the trunk, I was most definitely going to stop.
I surveyed my surroundings and made sure the situation seemed safe (wouldn’t be the first time bad guys laid a trap at a gas station on an interstate exit, right?), and once I was sure it was safe, I pulled over and assisted him. It not only felt great to help him, but I got to hear a bit about his Marine Corps service, which dated back to the Korean War.
Not that you all don’t already know this, but the reality is we’ll all be older someday, if we’re lucky enough and fortunate to make it that long, so help someone if and when you can. And maybe someday when you’re in the same situation, someone will help you, too.
Beginning with Ukraine, the biggest news since Tuesday was the sinking of Russia’s largest ship in the Black Sea.
The Moskva was a guided-missile cruiser, which had a crew of 500 and was more than 600 feet long. I stress the word “was” in all of that description.
The Russians provided all kinds of explanations for the loss.
But as the tweet below points out, it’s hard to decipher what “truth” is uglier.
Moving to China, which has been mostly buried in all the Ukraine and Russia news of late, I came across this excellent article.
The article also goes into detail about how the island of Guam will be crucial for the defense of Taiwan.
While we’re on the subject of China, the Navy and Marine Corps did something that should be shown as a strong counter to China’s potential plans.
Having spent six months on one of these ships (the USS Nassau), I can assure you that this is not what they were initially intended or designed for.
Quite remarkable that they were able to pull this off.
And one final China point, I’m hoping that China is watching very closely the economic pain that Russia is going through. China can expect much of the same reaction itself.
It’s arguably already beginning.
If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about in regards to China and Taiwan, take a glance at this:
There had been a fair amount of talk regarding China and Russia and their hyper-sonic weapons. America opened the window a bit to what it’s been doing on this topic this week.
That’s it for this edition. Let’s end with some motivation and wisdom.
