Western media has published little news about Afghanistan since Friday’s newsletter. The assassination in Haiti and the unrest in Cuba have shoved the despair and terror of the country off the front pages. It’s also extremely difficult to discern the truth of what is happening in the rural provinces, where the Taliban either threaten or actually retain control.
